Have you been concerned with what you are seeing in the mirror? Whether you are 35 and just starting to see the signs of aging, or 55 and showing your age, seeking a way to look more youthful is probably on your agenda.

There are many factors that contribute to the onset of wrinkles, including aging, sun damage and smoking. As we get older our skin cells divide slower, and the inner layer of our skin, begins to thin. The network of fibers, which support the outer layer, loosens and unravels, which results in depressions on the surface. With aging, skin also loses its elasticity, becomes more fragile and is less able to retain moisture. In addition, oil-secreting glands are less efficient which makes the skin drier and appear more wrinkled. All of these factors contribute to the development of wrinkles. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation (too much sun) can result in premature aging of the skin. The ultraviolet sunrays damage collagen fibers (the major structural proteins in the skin) and elastin fibers (the protein that causes skin to stretch). Both of these fibers are important components of the skin’s connective tissue and without them, the skin loses its strength and flexibility, leading to wrinkles. Smoking can inhibit the production of new collagen and prevent blood supply to the skin, both resulting in the development of wrinkles.

There are many treatments that can help with wrinkles. Botox® can be injected to prevent the muscle contractions that cause your skin to crease and develop wrinkles. Fillers can be injected into lines to plump up wrinkles. A face lift can be performed to surgically remove excessive skin and fat to tighten the face and neck. Laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels and dermabrasion are used to promote the development of new and healthy collagen. All of these procedures come with unpleasant techniques that require shots, cutting, injection of foreign materials and numerous side effects and down time for recovery.

Are you looking for a better way to reduce the signs of aging that doesn’t require shots, cutting, redness, swelling, peeling, irreversible damage, downtime or any other side effects? There is now an exciting new technique that can rival these traditional methods known as Smoothlase™. Smoothlase™ was developed by a dentist in Boynton, Florida-Dr. Harvey Shiffman. Using an advanced laser, the LightWalker® ATS, Dr. Shiffman created a treatment for wrinkle reduction, skin tone rejuvenation, and wrinkle prevention by stimulating collagen production from the inside of the mouth.  Since this technique is done from the inside of the mouth, there is no visible redness, peeling or swelling and hence no down time for recovery. The treatment has minimal discomfort and consists of 40 minute treatments, each spaced weeks apart. Smoothlase™ treatment causes a production of new collagen and conversion of collagen in the tissue to a younger more resilient type. It has been coined the “Inside Out Facelift” because the treatment is done from the inside of your mouth resulting in a more youthful looking outside.

At A+ Dental Care, we strive to keep up with new technology that can offer our patients the most advanced techniques. In doing so, we have the Lightwalker® ATS laser that is capable of performing Smoothlase™ and all of our doctors have been trained and certified by Dr. Harvey Shiffman to perform Smoothlase™.
